HVIDOVRE STRAND, COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

2017_landscape architecture project

Art project by artist Karin Lorentsen on the new beach in Hvidovre. With inspiration from the original 'soft' edge between the marsh of Hvidovre and the water, a meandering course of unique concrete elements and level changes that interweaves beach and meadow introduces. A poetic and functional element interpreting the characteristics of the nature in new shapes, and works as a terrain support wall between meadow and beach.

The process has consisted ind developing organic, playing and optimal forms from photos of white cabbage. The concrete edge extends over 160 meters and is used as a sitting surface. A place where you can find a 'small cave' to lay in, and a sculptural and landscape architectonical way of marking the beach and the division of sand and grass.

I have assisted Karin Lorentzen on the project, and I have been responsible for drawing and forming the concrete edge and the correspondence and cooporation with Odico, who laser cut the elements negative form in flamingo. Afterwards the forms were used as casting molds for the coloured concrete that assembles the final result.

The project was in September 2017 on the front page of WLA Magazine.

Nominated for a Store Arne in 2017.
